A great place to find new music is in the Beatport charts. Unlike some download providers, I really respect what Beatport does and how. They have the best exclusives from my favorite labels and feature some really great artists. I get regular emails from them (most of which I wish I hadn’t), but a recent one came through with the subject “Best of DJ Charts, All Time Edition”, and I couldn’t help but take a peek. I have only been really interested in dance music for a little less than two years, and was not familiar with most of the chart’s regulars. The name that frequently came up, however, was Dubfire. After a bit of research, I’ve come to figure that he’s an incredibly well respected techno and minimal producer, a strain of music I rarely touch. Now he might be the Tiesto of techno, and I just don’t know it, but so far I’ve heard some pretty bangin’ tunes. Going back to that “All Time” list, the No. 1 was a Dubfire remix, of a Radio Slave song called “Grindhouse”. I still have yet to figure out why it’s the best song of all DJ time, but it at least adds a bit of spice to my pathetic techno collection.

Beatport also offers the almost always shitty “Artist Recommendations”, until someone like Boys Noize throws some tunes at you which surprise. Now I’ve always been a fan of Siriusmo, but sometimes he simply outdoes himself. Check out the title track from his new EP, “The Uninvited Guest”, which grinds through a wacky and hypnotic techno groove similar to Mr. Oizo. If you don’t have this EP, GIT IT ASAP. I can’t wait to write my best of 09′ list just to slot “High Together” in some sort of top spot.
