south Africa: hot or not?
I’m currently struggling with a small argument with myself. Arists like Schenk, Royal K, Geoff K, Alex Fouche, and all the other guys coming out of the South African fidget scene share a distinct sound. It’s somewhat generic, but wobbles haaaard. The problem that I am having is that I can see that production quality in most of these songs is subpar and the songs seem not so difficult to produce. I’ve heard a lot of people simply refer to Royal K as “garbage.” While I am not a big Royal K fan, I do think he and his South African compadres deserve a bit more than “garbage” status. The big question, then, is are these songs good or are they just cool wobbly tunes that lack other structure? So here are a few sample tracks that I dig, take a listen, perhaps add your two cents, whatever really. I won’t even try to conceal the fact that I enjoy Geoff K a lot. enjoy

July 26th, 2009 at 04:59haha this is interesting. I see your point and ye its true the wobble is dying out but i can proudly say we were the south african pioneers to pump the shit out and to try make the “fidget” scene better here in south africa and i believe we have. Its not always easy to keep people dancing and to come up with new ideas that will make people go oh shiiit thats a crazy sound. Me personally, i have only been producing fidget for about a year and a half and i dont think im doing to badly. I started with hip hop which is my first love. Keep it real! :-)
