trembling hands

More goodies from the upcoming Lips disc, Embryonic.  I don’t listen to a whole lot of rock music these days, but bands like the Lips, Kasabian and Black Moth Super Rainbow are keeping the psychedelic vibes going strong.  I am officially stoked for this album.

The Flaming Lips – Powerless

The Flaming Lips – Silver Trembling Hands

On a more electronic note, if you haven’t picked up the new Basement Jaxx album yet, get it now.  It bumps just as hard as you would expect, but for me it’s the subtle tracks that do the trick, like the tripped-out (psychotropic-inspired?), “D.I.S.tractionz (feat. Jose Hendrix)”.  Probably my favorite cut off the album.

attention, this is seeeerious

noah_dHey everyone.  I know I’m a bit late on this one, but damn, this song destroys…in a nice melodic way for once!  Seeerious stuff coming from the US of A’s own, Noah D, who is currently putting together a sweet European tour, but for the rest of us stateside, he lives up in Portland, so west coasters, get at!

Noah D – Seeerious

On a darker note, a much darker note, I was quite happy to come across this free 320 give away from dubber Culprate and his label Dubsaw Records.  This is not melodic like serious, but wow, I love it.  Turn that sub up.

Culprate – Grave Robber

Bassnectar_CozzaFrenzy_1800_AlbumCover

Whoa, god.  Bassnectar‘s full length “Cozza Frenzy” LP dropped yesterday.  14 tracks of excellence.   I encourage everyone to head over to Bassnectar’s site and grab this album.  The twelve dollars is worth it.  He went two directions with the album, one is more typical and reminiscent of his live shows.  Glitchy, wobbly, truly “an amalgamation of every sound i’ve ever heard, mixed with ultra wicked basslines” (in the words of Lorin himself).  The other direction is super chilled out and that stuff is just plain beautiful.  Seriously, go buy this here.  I’ve picked one track, somewhat randomly to be honest, as they all could get up here, to give you incentive to go buy it.  support the nectar.  Sorry, had to reduce the quality.  When he remixes his own tracks, well it’s wise to listen.

Roska interview

(maybe on a blackberry hype?)

The man pioneering the UK’s intelligent funky house scene right now was kind enough to answer of few of our questions. If you’re not familiar with this sound, I highly recommend L-Vis 1990′s UK funky mix via Curb Crawlers and this great article recently released by xlr8r which features Roska himself. He has been DJing for the past few months, and has recorded a few shows for the legendary Rinse FM which I recommend seeking out. Check the interview for more info. Enjoy.

S: The sound of UK house has definitely changed over the past year. I feel like the music you’re pushing with a few others has been really spearheading this scene. I mean, with tunes being played out by dubstep, 2-step, grime, techno, and house dj’s it’s obviously getting a good response. What is your musical background and how would you describe your sound?

R: My musical background is rooted in hip-hop and garage, then grime, house, broken beat and now UK funky.

S: For how long have you been producing?

R: 8 years on and off. It was mainly a hobby and I started  taking it serious in the last 2 1/2 years making sure the sound is correct and also taking care of the business side of music.

sweet + sour

Coming back to the scene with a bang, Paris’s Simon Delacroix aka The Toxic Avenger has created a sort of album with three new orignal tracks and nine remixes for the 26th Scion CD sampler. For some reason he has the electro sound of two years ago still fresh, ahead of the game with his technical abilty and thrashing synths. Below check out his new single, “Rush Hour”, along with the super DJ-friendly Harvard Bass remix to add a bit of flavor to your sets. If your in the US next week, he’ll be coming to Austin, NY, Cleveland, and Philly so check the myspace for dates. He is insane live.

finally, it’s dare

GorillazViolin

This is long overdue, my apologies.  Better late than never.  One of the most respected names around on the Trip-Hop scene with their eclectic grooves, I will never lose respect for Gorillaz.  This is a remix I worked on for the latter portion of the summer, reworking the synth line of “Dare” with an orchestral vibe (with a little inspiration from Röyksopp’s “Röyksopp Forever”).  This is my first complete solo project, so feedback is appreciated.

Gorillaz – Dare (Rodan’s Symphonic Remix)

… and I’m returning from a little hiatus from the blog scene, so expect more from me in the future.

my bike’s illegal so they sent for the law

This weekend’s dubstep festivities worked me.  My body is ready to implode.  But there are a few tracks I heard that I would murder to get my hands on- Skream‘s remix of Chromeo, an unknown dubstep remix of “On A Boat” and others- and this was one of them, dropped by Zeno.  I love the Cool Kids, reppin’ Chicago, fly gear and good times, and combining their vibes with dubstep is a surefire hit.  The Widdler‘s remix kicks it to a whole other level- if anyone has the 320 of this, please please share the love!

The Cool Kids – Black Mags (The Widdler Remix)

UPDATE:  Orpheus seems to have a knack for finding tunes- he found the On A Boat remix (in delicious 320!), which it turns out was done by Zeno himself.  Thanks Orpheus! Bless!

chicos y chicas

Laidback Luke, while being one of my top producers, has always been hit or miss for me. He has so many releases it’s unfair to expect every one to be incredible but let’s just say this one is a hit. A really huge hit. Big choon, big remix of Martin Solveig.

thinking of your voice

I am so happy this track finally saw the light of day. Bingo Players have made a great tech-house bootleg of the iconic 90′s track about a diner in New York. That same place is actually the one the creators of Seinfeld based their diner off of. I have decided to put up the original as well just because its such a great song, kind of haunting but wonderful nonetheless.

BUT WAIT… the chaps of Bingo Players have just offered up their bumpin’ remix of N.E.R.D. for free and it’s only natural to support guys finishing more quality bootlegs than LBL.

i wish i could make music with a rubber band

770710_large

Right, so a young lad by the name of Jeff Doubleu out of the Netherlands has been madly churning out tracks, every one of which I would like to hear dropped during that 5am to 7 set.  Definitely got that dutch house vibe going on, which doesn’t surprise me considering his native land.  Well anyway, he’s on it.  His tracks are bouncy (bouncy like Hijack or Wongo).  Honestly, this one sounds like he was playing around with elastic and rubber bands and something just went right.  Not to undermine the difficulty of constructing this track, it’s certainly a beast, but I hear that rubber band…  The vocals are what make this song “full” though.  Check it out.

Jeff Doubleu – Woman (Original Mix)

He’s also got a number of side collabos going on right now that you should get up on before the whole world starts blathering about it.  He’s got a number of releases with fellow Netherlanders, Skitzofrenix.  And they are goooood.

Also be on the look out for his new project, Potato Heads, where he has teamed up with fidget/jackin’ all-star Tom EQ to deliver some fresh tunes for your aural pleasure.  Currently don’t have any tracks off their soon coming EP, “Potato Funk” (they have it posted on their myspace though), but they just dropped their first mix on Potty Mouth Records, readily available if you venture to google.  Good stuff, very good stuff.

And of course, a bonus track:

A1 Bassline, sometimes I love him, sometimes I get tired of his tracks very quickly, as they are somewhat similar.  I like this one though.  His “Bad Man Horror” EP drops tomorrow, and I will admit I am excited.  Get itttt.  He’s got a nice tour scheduled to accompany this.  What up, Australia!
