they’re all nuts: Sticky Disco forthcoming release

Got a little treat today. Sticky Disco are a relatively new duo that have caught the attention of one of my personal favorite labels, Off Me Nut, run by the Sheffield Squires, and are busy prepping some tracks for release. Earlier in the year they released their single “Funk Acid” on High Rankin’s label and that climbed through the ranks of beatport and sat in the Top 20 for  a minute.

This particular track is due for release soon as part of a free EP from Off Me Nut, but for now enjoy this 192 preview. Definitely keep watch for these guys, and check them out all over youtube and the such for some more listening.  This particular song has a buildup that sort of doesn’t do it for me, but they make up for that pretty fast. Check ‘em out, and give some love! Check back for more on Sticky Disco in the future.

Sticky Disco and Weez-ie – How We Do

second song: Brookah – Glass Bottles

I made a song tonight. It wasn’t what I set out on making. I’d hoped to make a very large track with lots of bass and a heavy drop, a banger of sorts, but then this happened. I was messing around with a synth and it sounded quite nice so I went with it. Guess it could be called as UK Funky. Either way I actually kind of like it (I rarely like anything I ever make) so I figured I’d post it here and get some feedback. This is my second song ever, my first was originally posted on Squeegie as well (right here) and the feedback was really helpful so I figured I’d try again. Hope you like it.

triple x clusive: Caribou – Sun (Jim-E-Stack Remix)

No he’s not on T&B. He was just their bitch/intern this summer. You know how it goes.

The nice thing about having friends who make music and blogging is that you always get the exclusive, at least that’s what I’ve convinced myself is the case. Jimmy Stack, an old friend of mine, has changed his name about 400 times but he’s finally settled on a name (for the time being). It’s quite clever, really deviates from his real name: Jim-E Stack (see what he did there?!?). But seriously, Jimmy’s been making music for a while and (luckily) he’s getting better as he makes more of it. We’ve got his exclusive remix of Caribou‘s ‘Sun’ here for you and…I actually like it a lot. Not to say that I didn’t like his other stuff, but I like this one (mucho). Got a cool vibe going and really plays up the production experience he’s gotten under his belt now. Check it out, always fun to listen to an artist not many have heard and be able to say I told you so way down the line, isn’t it?

my dude: Mess Kid

So I’m living up in NYC for the summer, interning and getting to know the city.  I’ve never been to New York before and besides the douchebags and the piles of garbage in the middle of the streets, this place is awesome. Last weekend I went to a club with a few friends, and a little after I got there, I realized that the DJ was killing it. Now, it could have been the immense amount of lines I was doing off of 18 young co-ed’s extremities that made his music so damn good but I doubt that’s the case.

Once my sniffles passed I got to talking with the man on the 1′s and 2′s, who goes by the name of Mess Kid. Hailing from Riga, Latvia, Mess Kid has played alongside the likes of Holy Ghost, Busy P, and Diplo. A few days ago he sent along a fire new track of his that I feel obligated to share with you all. While he begins the track with some dark electro, the song quickly changes into two entirely different themes with drops that without a doubt will make you groove. Get on over to his Myspace and show him some love.

Mess Kid – Nite Owl

Also, while I was doing some stalking on Mess’ Myspace, I found a little majestic gem of a song. I asked Mr. Kid if he could send it over, and of course he obliged. While this remix of Lady Gaga’s Poke Her Face is almost 2 years old, and Mess Kid’s style has definitely evolved since then, I can safely say that as long as it’s past 3am, I would take my shirt off every time I hear the drop. This is a squeegie exclusive ladies and gentlemen. Enjoy!

california swag district: Brookah’s Teach Me How To Dougie Mix

California Swag District. Fitting name.

Hey guys. So I’ve been meaning to record a mix for a while and finally got to it last night. Just picked some of the bigger tunes I have right now, total peak hour type stuff. Hit me up with thoughts and criticisms. Some big tingz in this one. Tracklist below the jump.

Note: If you downloaded this before 12:33 Central Time on May 26th the version you downloaded is only on the left channel for some reason. This one is fixed.

the world chico: Chiko’s Yeasayer remix

(Nope, he’s not DJing. He’s top right)

So I did a post on my kindergarten friend Jstack a few weeks back of a track of his that I dug. Well that track was good and all but he really stepped it up on this one, it’s of a different caliber for him. He now goes by Chiko (because he can’t decide on a name for the life of him) and hopefully this one will stick. Check his remix of Yeasayer out and if you dig it vote for his remix in the Mad Decent contest here.

cumpleanos: George Lenton’s Squeegie Mix

(an artifact from my brief but illustrious career as a graphic designer)

Musicians, as you probably know, can be very busy people.  George Lenton sent in a Squeegie birthday mini-mix today, and it’s a fantastic little chunk of belated birthday bass.  As a mini-mix, it does a great job of showcasing Lenton’s impeccable taste, jumping from genre to genre while maintaining a pretty serious low end throughout. Tracklist is after the jump.

one

As of April, Squeegie is one year old. First of all, I’d like to thank George for keeping the site running smoothly and the server in good shape. Second, to Ned, Nathan, Justin, Jack, Ethan, and Joe whose contributions make the site what it is. To all the readers, we appreciate your time more than you know, so please, if you like this site, bookmark it, we’ll try our best to get the music we love out to you.

For the anniversary, we asked a few artists and dj’s we feel are doing great things right now to throw together a mix. The results are selections from Rumblejazz, Jamtech Foundation, L.A. Boxers, Neoteric, Sduk, Cntrst, Brookah, and myself. Thanks for everyone who contributed, all of the mixes are massive! Hit the jump for downloads (if there’s a tracklist it’ll be in the “lyrics” section of the iTunes ID3 tag).

rub-a-dub-back

Hey guys. Some of you may have heard of the hysteria caused by Google going through blogger and shutting down tons of random blogs, even if you didn’t let me summarize it for you: it sucked. One of the affected blogs was Rub A Dub Dub, one of my favorite blogs out there and a blog that we are very close with. While being down for so long was shitty, they seized the opportunity to get their own server (finally, :) ) and completely revamped the site. Please go check it out and keep supporting them, some quality dubstep. Click HERE to go to their site.

They sent us over an exclusive track to give you a taste of the crazy shit they post. Check Snatch20‘s tune, it’s big.

6Blocc interview

Got a sweet little interview with none other than R.A.W. aka 6Blocc, someone who, if you are familiar with “bass music” in the US, requires no introduction. He has been well established in the scene since the early 90s with a background heavily invested in hip-hop and reggae, jungle, drum and bass, and garage music. With a firm grasp of arguably all the cardinal roots of the genre, in 2006 dubstep called out to him, and R.A.W. became 6Blocc. He’s getting ready to head off to the UK and EU for a tour and if you get the chance, you should definitely see him play. Most of his songs can straight flip a car over. Think I’m lying? Go see for yourself. If you missed it, I posted up his track “Jeep Music” last week. It’s a thummmper. But this time around, he sent along a special new track just for us to enjoy and I have been doing just that all day. The other I’ve included is just good fun.  What starts happening around 1:34 is pretty rough. Check out the interview and track after the jump and massive ups 6Blocc!
