festival-ing

Been feeling pretty nostalgic lately and decided to post up a few of my favorite vids I’ve taken from here and there over the last four months or so. Being lazy, Brookah and I skipped over a Coachella and Bonnaroo write up, which is our own fault, but some of these videos do a good job recapping the big moments. Click ‘read more’ for some excellent reminders of some of the more epic festivals and shows this country has to offer.

i can take it

Being under constant scrutiny puts some interesting pressure on each of these posts.  Most of the time, though, we all here at Squeegie just post what we like and you the reader like it.  Months ago I did a post about how songs with sexual lyrics please dance floors, and there was a pretty interesting point made in the comments about how the female moaning vocals have actually become a cliche, and an unfortunate stamp of “techno” music, which is true to a certain extent.  However, tell me you can’t get down to this, and you’re in for a slapping.  House legends Paul Anthony and ZXX have put together my favorite track of the moment.  The original of this holds a special place in my heart for all sorts of reasons, but these two just put the thump down in the remix.  Don’t just skip this one to 1:30 listen for a cool noise and move to the next song.  Listen to all 6 minutes of delight.  Happy Sunday, friends.  Enjoy the horns.

holy fucking shit

Holy balls. It’s real. It’s actually real. It’s actually fucking real. As I commented on our last post there are two songs that I have been looking for since Lollapalooza: the ‘Jump Around’ remix in this video (does anyone know what song this is?) Jantsen‘s remix of ‘Jump Around’ (thanks samples for the id) and Deadmau5‘s ‘To Play Us Out’. We got the second one. Yes, it does have a small stamp but at the end of the day it’s a 320 and it’s beautiful. Don’t complain. You’re welcome.

Deadmau5 happens to be a majestic god

Deadmau5

Whether you like him or not, you gotta give Deadmau5 credit for being a talented DJ and skilled producer.  Sure, his style is not for everyone, but he knows what’s up.  Having seen him live in Chicago a little while back, and knowing that I will be seeing him two more times before the summer is out (Five Days Off in Amsterdam(!) and Lollapalooza), I’d say  I’m pretty lucky.  He, as per usual, is touring around the world all summer long, visiting Oxegen Music Fest in Ireland and other related events all over the place.  Check his page out to see if he’s coming to a city near you!  He puts on a wild set, composed of only music he has had a hand in, or is exclusively his own.  I call him a majestic god, ’cause his songs normally make me extend my arms to the heavens, awaiting his trance-y house drops.  And he rarely disappoints.  The Reward is Cheese still causes rElapses to his show every time I listen.  This little tune hasn’t been blogged so far as I know, and it’s quite the ear-treat.  Yummy.

Deadmau5 – FML (Original Mix)

Hello Blog World

Greetings and Felicitations, friends!  This being my first post…I don’t have much to say.  But I can’t seem to say enough about Deadmau5.  Having heard “The Reward is Cheese” live last weekend, I have been playing this track nonstop since then. Deadmau5 takes the epic drop of the original and adds just a little crunch and a little more bang for our aural pleasure.  Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you: Reward is More Cheese.

Can’t wait to see you at Lolla, you crazy Canadian, you.

Deadmau5 – Reward is More Cheese

The announcement of the Lollapalooza lineup is a big day for us Chicagoans and let’s just say that this time around it was a bit of a disappointment. The ‘main attraction’ and its performers was pretty disappointing (Beastie Boys, Snoop, Crystal Castles, and a few others notwithstanding) as the event leaned heavily towards indie music with a considerable lack of hip-hop.

While the main stage might be disappointing (The Killers and Depeche Mode?) the DJ tent is stacked. The DJ tent is gonna be reppin’ Crookers, The Bloody Beetroots, Deadmau5, Bassnectar, Boys Noize, Simian Mobile Disco, A-Trak, MSTRKRFT, and others. Let’s just say I’ll be spending a lot of time in that tent.

I’ll also be using this post as an excuse to post the new Crookers remix of Britney’s new track. Check it.
