free gucci!

Hello one and all. I would like to begin this post by apologizing for the ridiculous delays between posts lately. I’ve just begun the whole frat thing at college and shit is time consuming. With that taken care of, let’s get down to music.

Squeegie favorite Gucci Mane has enjoyed the support of many in the musical industry, especially in blogging circles and the like. One of his biggest fans happens to be an artist known for taking on great projects and sometimes bringing more popular music to the blogging masses: Diplo. With this in mind, Diplo decided to collaborate with a ton of your favorite producers and make a Gucci Mane only mixtape and goddamn it’s hot. Featuring tracks from: Diplo, Bird Peterson, Brodinski, Douster, Flying Lotus, Mumdance, DZ, and my main main Willy Joy. Needless to say, Un. Fucking. Real.

I’ll give you guys a few tracks but you neeeeed to get the whole mixtape, it’s too good. To make it better, it’s free (my favorite number). Get the mixtape here.

Our Favourites of 2009

2009logo

(artwork by Mr. Scribbles)

Myself and the other writers of this blog had the idea to start up a new project in early April.  What has come of our effort has been unbelievably rewarding. I’d like to thank all of the artists who keep sending us music, all of our readers, and the writers personally. Keep doing you.

Below are the lists of our favorite aspects of music for the year of 2009. This year was an incredibly good year for all genres, especially the ones we regularly feature on this page. Electronic music is exploding in all directions right in front of us, and we are lucky to be in such an exciting time for it. Next year we will try to feature a wider array of artists, everything from folk to rock to hip-hop along with the usual styles we post. Be sure to bookmark this page, you will not be disappointed :).

Again, I cannot thank our readers enough for coming back to this page. Please add your own two cents to this whole “favorites” thing in the comments section, we would love to hear everyone’s opinion. Without further ado…

a trip down memory lane

dousterPerhaps this song is too old.  get over it.

I might receive some hate from all sorts of directions for this post, but I could care less.  This song is sooooo old, but one of the very best, one of the very first of its variety to make its way into my itunes.  I love it, always will and want to remind you of the awesomeness of this track.  Plus a lot of you might have missed it.  Be reminded and be merry.  This is a good one.  I fucking love Douster.

Bryan Cox – Let’s Go To Work (Douster Don’t Go to Work Remix)

exploited

Bit of a coincidence that this track should drop in the inbox today, considering I spent three hours in my ethnomusicology class listening to different versions of “The Lion Sleeps Tonight”.  Today the heat comes from Exploited Records, with Squeegie fave Douster remixing “Lions”, from  Malente & Dex (feat. New Kidz).  Douster gives it his usual top-notch treatment- don’t sleep on this one: it’s an oh-so-juicy 320.  Check it, and hit up more Exploited goodness pon de ‘Port, including Malente & Dex’s new jam “Bangkok” with Bonde Do Role.

this is what happens when i can’t post for a week

You’ll hear it a million times in our posts but yes, we are back. Pardon the delay. Enough about that, time to catch up on music. Check out my giant post after the jump for all the goodness we weren’t able to post these last few days and look for a Nic Sarno interview that’s gonna be up in just a few hours. Lezzzzgo!

ahh hoo

Really excited about this up and coming French talent, R.I.V.E.R., whose tracks I found about doin’ some good ol’ e.r.o.l. foruming. Some great intelligent house with a solid groove and warbling synths holding the track together. This track has been charted by Teki Latex and had the support of some big names, so be sure to download and see what you think. Also props to discodust for a nice feature on him, along with another R.I.V.E.R. track you can pick up over there.

We are all on a rampage about Douster, who right now seems to be able to make club music much more creatively and effortlessly than anyone else. If you haven’t picked up his “Afro Nuts” remix yet, it’s one of those tunes where even if you’re low on cash, it will bring you so much joy that you’ll be dancing around your room like a crazy person. This latest one has a very similar vibe, a remix of Busy Signal, whose been making big moves in the dancehall scene this year. Also, if you weren’t awares, our boy writes for our friends at MUGRE so show them support at well. 320 down there, so no worries about spinning this beast.

Douster – King of Africa. Mp3 not yet released, once it is, you’ll be seeing it on this site.

yo momma

Sound Pellegrino is one of those labels whose every release is absolutely incredible. Whether it’s Harvard Bass, Renaissance Man, or anyone else from their all-star roster I automatically download any of their new EPs. With that in mind, I’ve got a track from Momma’s Boy’s new EP ‘Wedouwedou / Give It Up’. Some of you might know Momma’s Boy from his work on Douster’s EP a little while back (at least that’s how I knew of him) and he brings the fire once again.  We’ve got the quality jacked down a bit so head on over to Beatport and get the full EP (two other originals and a remix from Kid Kaio? Must-buy).

nutty

Douster has officially become Argentina’s greatest export. Sure, people may knock him for having a similar style on all of his tracks but if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. Either way, his latest remix of Crystal Fighters proves that he can go outside of his “box” and still kill it. With that in mind, I’ll give you one of his newer remixes of Yolanda Be Cool (thanks to discobelle for the tip) as well as the Crystal Fighters one for good measure. ‘Xtatic Truth’ has been remixed to death but I still think he did more than an admirable job in his remix, agree or disagree?

PS. Yolanda Be Cool’s ‘Afro Nuts EP’ comes out August 8th and with remixes from Edu K and Douster how can you resist. Get it when it’s out.
