x marks the spot: Paul White & Guilty Simpson

(anyone know who did this art? it’s clearly the same artist from the My Guitar Whales EP, and it is awesome.)

Paul White has being doing some big things recently, with his fantastic remix of Mux Mool, the My Guitar Whales EP (“The Bright Future” is brilliant), and now with a hard-hitting collaboration with Stones Throw veteran Guilty Simpson.  With jarring guitar chords and impeccable sampling, White’s production sets the stage perfectly for Simpson’s languid flow.  Enjoy the track, grab the single with a handful of remixes by White here, and look out for big things from both artists in times to come; White shows no signs of slowing, and hopefully Guilty and Madlib will finally drop O.J. Simpson sometime this millennium.

Stones Throw Records, home of a ridiculous roster of hip-hop talent including production virtuoso Madlib and his equally talented brother Oh No, is slated to release a collaboration I’m pretty damn excited for, with the combination of Madlib and rapper Guilty Simpson under the moniker OJ Simpson (Madlib’s real name is Otis Jackson).  Stones Throw just released a Madlib-produced Simpson track that’s not going to be on the album, and before that they put out the OJ Simpson remix of Madlib’s “Kill ‘Em” and a preview track from the album entitled “Coroner’s Music”.  As always, Lib’s production is top-notch and unique, and Simpson has a way of seeming completely relaxed on the mic that few can match.  With that said, here are the tracks that have been released.  The album drops in April, and should be more than solid, with features from artists like Elzhi (who has also had an interesting project in the works for a while with his Nas-inspired Elmatic) and Strong Arm Steady.

Bonus: Here’s a dope Black Milk joint with Guilty Simpson, off an older Black Milk mixtape, Pressure, which you can cop here.

so nang

Foreign Beggars are a little sicker than I originally thought. Their latest album , ‘United Colors of Beggatron’ (which you can pick up iTunes) contains a few mad cuts including features from Stone’s Throw rapper Guilty Simpson and productions by drum n’ bass wizards Noisia. I really recommend buying this whole CD, but DO NOT go without buying the Noisia remix of “Contact” (that’s the remix you see at the end of this video). I would’ve gone crazy if I was the one who had to master that record…

Speaking of which:

Its been a while since I downloaded a mixtape that was largely filled with solid hip hop tracks from artists I had never heard of.  Trackstar the DJ‘s latest, “Do For Self” definitely qualifies.  I downloaded it because it had Black Milk and Guilty Simpson, two of my favorite MCs, but then I listened through, hearing artists like Gotta Be Karim, Black Spade, Hollyweerd and Random Axe, which is a trio consisting of Black Milk, Sean Price, and Guilty Simpson.  So download it.  And check out Gotta Be Karim’s mixtape “10,000 Apples“, also mixed by Trackstar.  Big ups to Smoking Section for the tip.

Hollyweerd – Automatic Classic

Black Spade – Lavish Life

Gotta Be Karim – When U See Me

Random Axe – Monster Babies
