Adult Swim, aside from bringing fabulous animated programs to gentlemen like myself, has been bringing great music to the people for free for a couple of years now.  I credit the ‘Swim completely with introducing me to MF Doom, through their release of his and Dangermouse‘s Danger Doom album, which has remained solidly as one of my favorite hip-hop albums of the decade (and how could it not be, with Meatwad spitting a verse?).  Anyway, Adult Swim has returned, with a remix compilation of southern rap songs entitled “ATL RMX”.  Honestly, with its combination of southern rap and trip-hop/electronica, this mixtape seems practically made for Squeegie.  The tape includes remixes of artists like Gucci Mane (free Gucci!), Shawty Lo, Gorilla Zoe and OJ Da Juiceman, but if you’re listening to this, you’re in it for the roster of remixers, which is pretty damn impressive.  Hard hitters on the album include Flying Lotus (remixing Gucci Mane? oh lawd so juicy), Hudson Mohawke, Drums of Death and El-P, among others.  Here’s a couple of my favorite cuts off the disc, but I see no reason not to grab the whole thing, straight up gratis, from the folks over at Adult Swim.

Gucci Mane – Photoshoot (Flying Lotus remix)

B.o.B. – Satellite (Hudson Mohawke remix)

Lil Jon feat. Kee – Give It All You Got (Drums of Death remix)

thanks pete tong!

An exciting Essential Mix from Hudson Mohawke. He somewhat dabbles in some left-field stuff but keeps it interesting throughout. Full tracklisting after the jump.

Wow. I took that quote from a youtube commenter and I couldn’t have said it better myself. Aside from having what looks like the sickest artwork ever on his record, HudMo offers up some real musical quality as well. His style is electronic and playful, sometimes sounding like warped R&B, always interesting. He just dropped his album “Butter” on Warp records and there is no doubt whether you should buy it or not. Here is the youtube video for “gluetooth”, which should impress you so much on the first listen that I bet you’ll go and support the man. Also, props to the FADER for releasing an exclusive mix and interview by him, both of which you can catch here.

most listeners of rap just listen to rap

Heralds of Change come from Ireland with a deep roster of hip hop and wonky productions, and have since collaborated with many rappers around the world. They have been bridging the gap excellently between the bare instrumentalists with MC’s, pumping out infectious beats consistently. Below is a great track along with DC based rapper Oddisee; upbeat and jumpy to put you in a right mood. It’s a few years old, but download the tune and be sure to support these guys in the future. Look out for Hudson Mohawke‘s (1/2 of Heralds of Change) album forthcoming Warp records.
