For the newest release on Untold’s Hemlock recordings comes a collaboration between dub-futurists L.V. and a remix from Mount Kimbie. With two tracks on the Hyperdub 5 compilation, L.V. have made a name for themselves as a true pros. ‘Beacon’ is a beautiful balance between Untold’s unpredictable sonic moves and the spacious bassweight of traditional dub that L.V. brings to the table. The Mount Kimbie remix is the more familiar cut here, but nonetheless outstanding. Rave chords are met with crisp snaps and handclaps, more with the intention of making the listener appreciate the composition rather than cause a raucous on the dancefloor. A definite pick-up for those who have followed the happenings of dubstep over the years; this one will remind you of Mala orĀ Pinch, no mid-range sillyness here. Not sure about the date on digital, but you can buy the vinyl now at bleep.

are you serious?

Dubplate culture, love it or hate. You may not like that you don’t have the song Mala is playing in full quality, but that hype is what’s driving you to find out more about it and support everyone involved. The track in question is Joker’s “Tron”, one of the Bristol wizard’s dirtiest basslines to date. Expected to be on his album dropping later this year, the video and this rip are just another reason to be excited about what’s next for Joker.
