i can be your friend

Much love to Scion (again) for providing us with more great music, this time American legend Todd Edwards getting the stamp.

Todd Edwards is in prime form on “I Might Be.” With an upbeat, airy bassline and Edwards’ pleading vocals, it could just as easily have been written ten years ago as today. This timeless quality is what sets Edwards apart and defines his place in dance music.”

The remixes are all quality indeed, but garage pioneer MJ Cole‘s possesses a dreamy, euphoric quality that makes perfect use of the chopped-up vocals Todd is so well-known for. The swingy drums and bass progression are what send me over the edge though. This was featured on Dusk + Blackdown‘s Rinse FM show a few months back and I’ve been waiting for this to drop ever since. One of my favorite tracks of the year no doubt.

Todd Edwards – I Might Be (MJ Cole Remix)

Physical version out May 25 on ScionAV, with remixes from Feadz, MJ Cole, Joy Orbison, and My Dear Disco.

Hats off to our friends over at Pipedown for the recommendation of Rumblejazz, a guy from South London whose beats have been impressing me for the past week or so. For the latest Circus records competition, Flux Pavilion asked producers to have a crack at “Voscillate”. Rumblejazz‘s remix is not what you’d expect though; instead, we hear a slowed down version that bridges the gaps between house and half-step beautifully. The vocals are pitched up, making for a kind of alien vibe only complemented by the warping synths. Give Rumblejazz a shout on soundcloud (join the fanclub with MJ Cole!) or myspace, as I’m sure we’ll see him on this page in the near future.

Expect a United Groove Remix EP forthcoming on Mad Decent soon including tracks from TRG & MJ Cole. Also the night at which L-Vis regularly spins, Night Slugs, will be releasing tracks from him and Bok Bok this month. Don’t sleep on these!
