I can die a happy man

Finally! Been waiting for this song for a minute and a half. Dubstep giant, Rusko just released his massive banger Da Cali Anthem on Mad decent for free. Ever since I heard this on Rusko’s keep watch mix for mishka, I’ve contemplated going John Mcclain on Motherfuckas to get it. This song truly is an anthem and I have no doubts in my mind that it’ll make it to my most played song in a few days. And for all of you guys out in Miami next week, you can catch this man (and many others) tearing it up at Ultra. I for one will be cheesing my balls off. Enjoy!

Rusko – Da Cali Anthem

i am ready

I always hate when I hear a giant track in someone’s set only to realize that, more likely than not, I may never figure out just what it was. Rusko finished up his set at Hard NYC with a few giant dnb tracks that absolutely wrecked the joint. I was lucky enough to have found one of them thanks to dubjunks via Macgregor (thanks again to both of you). Check out this giant track from Simon Bassline Smith and Drumsound, it’s biiiigness.

Simon Bassline Smith and Drumsound – R U Ready (Original Mix)

from the crust

This one has been played by all the major heavy dubstep guys for a few weeks, and I’m so happy it’s forthcoming Dub Police. God bless Rusko for playing this on his new monthly BBC1Xtra show, I know myself (,Brookah,) and Orpheus are feelin’ it. Thank you, Doctor P, for some true wig-out bizness.

jackin beats

(Thank you Orpheus for filming this)

Along with Orpheus and Macgregor I was just in New York, New York to witness a crazy ass show. In one night we saw Jack Beats along with Crookers, Major Lazer, Rusko, and Destructo at Hard NYC (what a fucking lineup, NYC holler). Shit was crazy, can’t even describe it. We’ll have a post coming up with our favorite tracks from the show but until then we’ve got some Jack Beats goodness to hold you over. Jack Beats just did a guest mix for Kissy Sell Out on Radio 1 and damn it is huge. It’s got a lot of their upcoming bangers as well as one of my most desired upcoming tracks, Lee Mortimer and Laidback Luke’s ‘Blau’ (rip from a previous post). Check the mix out and see the bangers that Jack Beats has coming up for all of us (thanks trashcanpunch for the tip).  If you have any of these tracks besides the obvious ones hit us up with em, they’re all huge. Tracklist after the jump.

hype up on the mic

This song just blew out my iPod headphones. Lazy, lingering puffs of 808 bass introduce a hades-deep sub that will send you into a rage. Tempa T’s violent lyrics, some of which include robbing children of their toys, won’t help preventing that either. Plastician is a dubstep legend basically, one of the most respected in the game, and that status is firmly cemented with work like this. Such a raw feel in this tune, reminds me something Dizzee would do from the days of Boy in da Corner (my fav album ever). If you caught it, this track was featured in Rusko’s mix for excellent mix for Mishka. I’m also throwing up the instrumental to see if any MCs wanna jump on it and send us your verse, would love to hear it. You can catch Tempa’s full length at any good download store, and if you’re from the UK you know the deal about Plastician live, check the space for dates.

look out, more dub

skreamRight, found these Skream track rips from Rusko’s essential mix and naturally became very excited.  Bad quality as they are definitely rips, but so huge all the same.  This inspired me to post an additional rip.  And for good measure a sweet track that will be released in proper 320 soon.  Here are the Skream tracks first.

Skream – Wonky (192 rip)

Skream – Meta-Lick (192 rip)

This next one is a huge track I’ve been lookin’ for since I heard his essential mix.  Rusko has an arsenal of tracks, and I’m begging for this one to get released proper.  Check it out

Rusko – Do U Wanna Have a Party? (192 rip)

And here is a sick tune from the one and only Cookie Monsta.

Cookie Monsta – Optimus Prime (192)

And now some proper quality excellence.  The first is a fresh submission from Tek-One, who has made some explosive songs of late.  The second is some more 16bit filth.  Not as abrasive as Chainsaw Caligraphy, but this’ll getcha.

Tek-One – Hate You (320)

Skism – The Blank (16Bit Remix) (320)

Funnily enough, these artists all reside in the UK.  Cool beans, enjoy.

no it ain’t my birfday but you see me spendin cash

creepy, right?

Rusko’s “2NAQ”, along with AC Slater’s remix of “Everyday Hustle”, were the two songs that introduced me to the world of dubstep and ultimately got me hooked.  The sounds these gentlemen were creating were unlike anything I had heard up to that point, and they were so refreshing in the sea of pounding 4/4 electro bangers in the midst of which I was currently awash.  Now to the present- Dub Fiend (who created the awesome tetris dubstep remix included in my very first post here on the squeege) has remixed Rusko’s “2NAQ” and taken a very different route with the tune than I would have expected.  Gone are the harsh synths, replaced instead with a pulsing groove almost reminiscent of Ratatat.  This is a dubstep jam of the relaxing variety, which in my opinion the world needs more of.  After that comes a little bit of Chicago hip-hop, in the form of Kidz in the Hall’s latest single, “Flickin’”.  I’m on the fence with this one.  Naledge is always on point with his lyrics, but he seems to have slowed down his flow in favor of a more mainstream sound.  And for the love of god and all that is holy, get rid of that fucking autotune.  That said, Double O’s production is still top notch, and as a whole the song is pretty dope.  Kidz have an album coming out soon (Oct. 13) so look out for that, and be sure to show Dub Fiend some love up on the myspace.

oh my god, it’s Rusko

Rusko has been the target of a lot of criticism lately, some have said he’s fallen off a bit and I would agree in a few cases that is true. But just when some might lose faith in Rusko, he delivers. Rusko killed this track. Killed it. He shit on the track then made the track thank him for it. A monster remix of The Prodigy.

JAYOU Interview

jayou

Today, I bring you a little Q&A session I had with JAYOU, rising dubstep producer from the UK.  Included is his latest original plus a few remixes of “Crack Hands” that he sent along …

JAYOU – Beans&Rice

JAYOU – Crack Hands (Genetic Crew Remix)

JAYOU – Crack Hands (Woodhead Remix)

Stay alert for more tracks soon.  Be sure to check out Orpheus’ last post on JAYOU for more.  Squeegie is proud to present JAYOU’s first official interview… ever.  You found it here, folks.

S: What’s good?  We’ll start with a little introduction.  Who are you and where is your production headquarters located?

JU: Easy now squires! I’m JAYOU, currently residing in sunny Manchester, UK. I came up here to do the uni thing which I cut short last October, which is when I started taking production more seriously.

S: So when and how exactly did you get into production?

JU: Music’s always been a major part of my life. Since a young age I was playing violin and piano, but got tiresome of the lessons and the theory so gave it all up at the age of 16. Then, when my boy, Laney, showed me a drum and bass track he’d made on Reason a couple of summers ago, I was hooked. I knew this was what I wanted to do. After messing around on Ableton and Reason for a few months on and off, I finally decided to stop fucking around and went head first into it, grabbing myself a copy of Logic.
