Our Favourites of 2009

2009logo

(artwork by Mr. Scribbles)

Myself and the other writers of this blog had the idea to start up a new project in early April.  What has come of our effort has been unbelievably rewarding. I’d like to thank all of the artists who keep sending us music, all of our readers, and the writers personally. Keep doing you.

Below are the lists of our favorite aspects of music for the year of 2009. This year was an incredibly good year for all genres, especially the ones we regularly feature on this page. Electronic music is exploding in all directions right in front of us, and we are lucky to be in such an exciting time for it. Next year we will try to feature a wider array of artists, everything from folk to rock to hip-hop along with the usual styles we post. Be sure to bookmark this page, you will not be disappointed :).

Again, I cannot thank our readers enough for coming back to this page. Please add your own two cents to this whole “favorites” thing in the comments section, we would love to hear everyone’s opinion. Without further ado…

(who knew Joker could steez on a bike?)

You all know the deal with Sean Paul, new album blah blah blah. Anyway, biggup TC & Joker for doin’ their respective things on his new single ‘So Fine’, each laying down signature styles over the acappela. Joker is keeping it so official with the hip-step and melodies lately, so along with this one be sure to head over to fellow Chicago blog Hot Biscuits to pick up his remix of SMD (big stuff for sure). On the other hand, TC continues in the tradition of top-quality DnB. Some old-school vibes here, kinda reminding me of this. Thanks dubjunks for the tracks!

Felix Cartal

Speaking of Felix Cartal… he released his EP “Skeleton” yesterday.  An album that broke the mold of Cartal’s signature thrashing metal sound with squishier, more squeegie-esque influences.  Songs like “Redheads” include bubbly, poppy synths that reminisce Simian Mobile Disco and Daft Punk.  Show Cartal some support for the new EP via Itunes.  Although I’m all for Felix Cartal exploring new sound, the song I bring to you today is nothing less than classic Cartal.  The crazy Canadian did a remix of Laidback Luke’s “Need Your Loving.”  Huge metal synth carried by drum and claps.

And in case you missed the big’un from earlier this year.  Absolutely massive, folks…
