SonicC

There are some songs that you don’t really expect a good remix to be made from.  SonicC – Stickin is one such song that I didn’t think needed any sort of adjustment.  I personally love it, and it gave me a right good rocking once or twice or all summer long.  However, SonicC‘s buddy and collab parter Digital Lab, did work.  It’s not too different from the original, which is good, but it’s faster and just straight craziness.  I have to give full credit to a blog I am fairly new to: The Chocolate Drank.   Don’t have too many posts yet, but they have some leggggit stuff up there. This dropped in 320 on Beatport on Halloween, and I remember seeing the release, and just over looking this one, so head over there for the full HQ. yes.  Anywho, here’s the remix.  I lub it.  And so does Joe.  Enjoy this.  I have a feeling it will catch some fire in the future.

SonicC – Stickin (Digital Lab Remix)

act a damn fool

For those of you in Chicago that have been living under a rock for extended periods of time this Friday marks the beginning of Lollapalooza. This year’s lineup is sick and Perry’s tent will not disappoint, but one must not forget the afterparties that come along with it. It’s a friend’s birthday soon and to commemorate it The Movement is throwing an afterparty with Brookah, Shala, E6, Million $ Mano, and more. If you plan on going to Lollapalooza and being cool you should be sure to stop by. If you go you will hear this sick bootleg of The Prodigy done by Squeegie favorite SonicC spun by yours truly, I’ll let the song finish off the sales pitch.

The Prodigy – Android (SonicC Bootleg)

so fresh

Young up-and-comer and friend of Squeegie, SonicC, just sent us over his latest track. Some of you might remember his interview from before and the track that accompanied it, ‘Stickin’ (if you didn’t download it, get it now, Diplo opened his 5 Days Off set with it). Well he sent us over his new track but this way goes in a very different direction from his first. A very Duck Sauce-ish track, it is a french house remix of Kool & the Gang. Tell us how you like it.

There’s no doubt that one of the most popular and growing sounds of the summer has been the dutch house / party techno formula that has been mastered by dj’s like Afrojack, SonicC, Alvaro, Laidback Luke, and many more. People have become worn out by the grinding vibes of electro, and the wobbles have become a little obsolete. DJ’s are now going after effective funky riddims with big room feel.

Don’t get me wrong, the Afrojack remix of “Moombah” is one of the best in its genre, but if people keep pushing it in their mixtapes and sets, its going to become the next “Day n’ Nite (Crookers Remix)”. If thinking about putting a song like that into your repertoire, try one of these instead.

DJ Chuckie is a very well respected DJ/Producer in the Netherlands, continuing to get this “sound” out there. In fact he made the skeleton for “Moombah”, which allowed Afrojack to officially blow up with his remix. Check out his tune, “Let the Bass Kick”, which fulfills the expectations given by the name and much more.

Also, download this remix by producer Blowup, who infuses a latin rhythm making it great for DJing.

These both have been reduced in quality, so if you wanna bang em’ out, let your mouse drag to the right and purchase from your favorite download store.

SonicC interview

Witness the chaos that ensues above, then find out a little about the young man behind it. Phra‘s hand motions before the drop epitomize the awesomeness of this track.

SonicC – Stickin’

S: What’s up Sonic? From where are you writing us today?

SC: From beautiful Miami Florida.

S: So you’re 17? I thought I was young… How did you know you wanted to start producing music at such a young age?

SC: Well I basically just started off as a listener to house, and really liked the mainstream commercial stuff (which is what I first heard). Then I started djing and like any good dj I wanted to have exclusive mashups, edits etc; then that turned into making remixes, then I went all the way into making my own tracks… It’s not really something I thought I would do or even wanted to do until I really started producing, so in a way I wanted to start producing when i did start producing.

S: Where do you draw inspiration from? What/who are some of your biggest influences? read more »
