get ready USA

crocodile_dentist_copy squire of gothosBeen waiting a minute for this.  Actually basically since the inception of the mighty squeeg.  Back in the day and right up to the present, Big Al and Titch of The Squire of Gothos have impressed me.  Their Rave Lord EP just blew me out of the water.  And now they have come forth with a new mix, free remix giveaway, and news of a delicious tour that will likely rip the US to shreds.  The kick of date for that is set at January 11, when Trouble and Bass records will be hosting the young badbwoys for a nice show up in NYC.  Currently looking for more cities to rep that bassline sound, so interested promoters out there, please contact their manager at Management@subdivisionbass.com, especially you Chi-town.  And look out, rumor has it that Jayou might join them on this quest.  yeah, that’d be tight.  Here’s the remix to get your blood moving a bit first.

NaS – Life’s a Bitch (Squire of Gothos Remix)

And here is the mix the boys put together.  Really a good showcase of their versatile sound, while sticking true to their deep, wobbly, distorted madness.  Minutes 18-31 are madness, but it’s all excellent.  Like big time.  Tracklist after the jump.  Keep your ears and eyes peeled.  Might have some more info coming soon.

don’t sweat the tek-nique

Tek 1Tek One, hailing from Croydon in the UK, consists of a wicked producer — and when performing live, his accompanying drummer (dope, right?) –  who are churning out some of the nastier bits of dubstep I’ve heard in recent times.  And while many artists (most notably The Squire of Gothos) have humorous descriptions of their sound on Myspace, Tek One’s is particularly interesting.  They describe their music as being made with, “circuit bent childrens toys, broken keyboards, short-circuited toy amps, anything with AA batteries and a low bitrate that was built in Taiwan and designed to amuse a young child for 30 seconds”, and while that may sound a bit off, their sound is anything but.  I’ve been on a melody-driven dubstep binge for a while now, but these guys may have restored my faith in the kind of narsty sounds that originally got me hooked on the genre.  Crank up the subs and look out for more hugeness from these guys in the future .

JAYOU Interview

jayou

Today, I bring you a little Q&A session I had with JAYOU, rising dubstep producer from the UK.  Included is his latest original plus a few remixes of “Crack Hands” that he sent along …

JAYOU – Beans&Rice

JAYOU – Crack Hands (Genetic Crew Remix)

JAYOU – Crack Hands (Woodhead Remix)

Stay alert for more tracks soon.  Be sure to check out Orpheus’ last post on JAYOU for more.  Squeegie is proud to present JAYOU’s first official interview… ever.  You found it here, folks.

S: What’s good?  We’ll start with a little introduction.  Who are you and where is your production headquarters located?

JU: Easy now squires! I’m JAYOU, currently residing in sunny Manchester, UK. I came up here to do the uni thing which I cut short last October, which is when I started taking production more seriously.

S: So when and how exactly did you get into production?

JU: Music’s always been a major part of my life. Since a young age I was playing violin and piano, but got tiresome of the lessons and the theory so gave it all up at the age of 16. Then, when my boy, Laney, showed me a drum and bass track he’d made on Reason a couple of summers ago, I was hooked. I knew this was what I wanted to do. After messing around on Ableton and Reason for a few months on and off, I finally decided to stop fucking around and went head first into it, grabbing myself a copy of Logic.

The Squires

squires

Greeting and Felicitations!  Got some EXCLUSIVE tracks for you today.  The Squire of Gothos are two “badbwoy” bassline producers hailing from the birthplace of bassline itself, Sheffield, UK.  I first heard about the Squires back in December, and since then I cannot find any producer(s) out there who can match both their production quality and truly intense bassline wobbles.  They put it best themselves: their music “sounds like:

Free parties in graveyards. Happy hardcore on downers. Electro House’s Evil brother. Speed Garage nights with more violence. Dubstep with less nerds and harder drugs. Hitting a woman copper in the face with a cro-bar. FUCKING BASSLINEZ!!!!!!”

Since their EP release, Rave Lord, available here at Juno, they have been steadily on the rise.  Really what gets me about The Squire of Gothos is their ability to keep me interested throughout an entire song.  It’s not build-up, drop and that’s it; it’s drop after drop of crazy sounds.  So here’s what we’ve got for you today:

Adina Howard – Freak Like Me (Squires of Gothos Hired Goons Remix)   Squeegie First!

Fantastic remix…Did I forget to mention that The Squire of Gothos make mixes entirely of their own music?  The song above and the song below were played on their most recent mix, available on their myspace page.  Good stuff.

The Squire of Gothos – On a Burger Thing   Squeegie First!

“Burger way” is going to be officially released next month on the Sheffield label, Bad Taste Records.  Show some love.  Based on what I’m hearing coming from their studio recently, I’m definitely looking forward to that release.

The Squire of Gothos – Triple Drop Ft. MC Condom

Triple Drop is epic, plain and simple.  It is in 128 above, but you can head over to Juno to get it in that clean 320.

Stay tuned for their upcoming US tour! Coming late 2009/early 2010; the people over at Sub Division Bass are currently looking for interested promoters.  Contact them at management@subdivisionbass.com if you’re interested.

Look out for future posts on these guys, they are headed in a very good direction and I look forward to more from them in the future; big ups guys!
