colonel angus’ chicken

Dang.  This joint is straight nasty.  And I mean nasty in a wholly different way than the overt vulgarity of the original.  When I first saw the track (over at Kid City) I was pretty surprised–Shlohmo remixing Khia?  And until about a minute in, I was a bit disappointed; I’d come to expect a certain caliber of track from this gentleman, and up until that point all it had going was a Bangladesh-grade kick and some fun fluttery business up in the melody region.  Then the sub dropped. That’s all I’m going to say. Undoubtedly more big things from the WEDIDIT crew in times to come.

Khia – My Neck My Back (Shlohmo Remix)

that time again

This new year has had me blathering a ton about the LA based crew wedidit, a group of guys with a similar mindset on the whole beat-making, thunder-stealing thing. One of the members Juj just dropped a new beat on their blog which utilizes some warped guitar chords and 70′s funk samples to dangerous effect. If you dig, catch a whole free CD of beats here and show him some love on myspace.

Shlohmo interview

With a myspace tag saying “if it moves, then there’s nothing off-beat about it”, and tracks getting played by Mary Anne Hobbes recently, Shlohmo is certainly making a name for himself. With a unique take on off kilter hip-hop he’s currently playing with along with the members of his crew “WEDIDIT“, there is nowhere to go but up for this now 20 year old (happy birthday big homie!). Be sure to look out for his forthcoming EP on Friends of Friends, my choice track being “Teeth”, a beat that rollerskates along the pavement when all of a sudden a bassline as toothless as a deranged homeless person smacks you upside the head. Also, download the mix he did for xlr8r and be sure to read the interview. BOH!
